November 12, 2010

Message From Greg Rudnick:

On Friday Nov. 12th we will be having a special meeting with the topic "How to be successful in graduate school". In this meeting we will have a discussion about what you need to do in graduate school that isn't part of the formal curriculum, but is crucial to being a successful scientist.

Attendance by *all* graduate students is strongly suggested. Interested undergraduates are also welcome to attend.

The meeting will be at 4pm in 3005 Malott in place of the normal SPS meeting.

Food and drinks will be provided.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Greg

We will also be discussing the upcoming physics portion of the Chemistry Fair, so make sure to come so we can plan out demos and other acticities.

Sep. 3: Elections

Hello everyone,

We will be having our next SPS meeting tomorrow (Friday) at 4:00 PM in
Malott 3005 (as usual). We will be electing student representatives to
both the graduate and undergraduate councils for the department, as well
as the departmental assembly. There will also be time after elections
for students and professors to meet and socialize, and we will be having
free pizza again.

So if you'd like to help represent physics and astronomy students to the
department, meet your professors and fellow students, or just eat some
free food, feel free to join us. Any graduate or undergraduate students
with an interest in physics or astronomy are welcome!

Thank you,
Jeff Brown

First Meeting of a New School Year

I welcome everyone to join us at the first meeting of KU SPS this semseter. We will have pizza and ice cream, but regular ice cream isn't good enough cause we're physicists. So we will be making Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream! (And we might just have some fun with any left over liquid N2).

We hope to have lots of guest speakers, fun activities, and maybe even plan a trip of some kind this semester. To do this, we need you to come to the first meeting so that we can get your input on what you would like to see this coming semester.

Remember the meeting is:
Friday, August 27 at 4:00 pm in Malott 3005
